alien convicts have escaped from prison and traveled across a wormhole where
they have taken the guise of human beings on modern day Earth. An alien tracker
follows to bring them back and takes the form of an underwear model and goes by
the brand name “Cole” as he slowly begins to adjust to life in the material
realm. As best as I can understand it, in order to break the light speed
barrier, the aliens come to Earth in the form of energy so once they arrive on
Earth they have commandeer a body as a host with the exception of the tracker
who can change his energy form into that of “Highlander: The TV Series” Star
Adrian Paul, who also serves as one of the show’s executive producers.
The
Sci-Fi Channel has been running the series on Friday nights under the title
“Tracker” and Lions Gate Home Entertainment has released the two-part
feature length pilot onto DVD. The series is more pulp sci-fi than anything
else. Fans of Adrian Paul might enjoy the series if only because he does have a
remarkable quality to play a sympathetic hero while I suppose women who find him
sexy will enjoy watching him run around in his “Cole” underwear as he tries
to get used to the physical nature of life on Earth that we take for granted,
like walking and talking. In that respect I found the series opener at least
somewhat refreshing because it would make sense for an entity from another world
to have to adjust to life as a human. Geraint Wyn Davies plays a good villain
with just enough camp to sell some of the ridiculous moments of the story such
as when he alerts Cole to go back through the wormhole when all he had to do is
just stay quiet and let him go or if he is really a dangerous villain, kill Cole
and use his sophisticated alien technology to prevent other trackers from coming
through the wormhole after him. At times this merger of episodes seems a bit
stilted with characters just appearing with not enough background development
for the viewer to know and care about who they are and what will happen to them.
Former WWE Wrestler “Chyna” has a brief appearance in the film’s opening
sequence, but thankfully she’s dispatched with quickly because she’s
terrible. I wish I could say something nicer, but she’s just not a good fit
even for a film like this.
The
image is presented in a letterboxed 16 by 9 aspect ratio. The quality of the
picture varies from good to mediocre depending upon the lighting. Some scenes
look clear with no visual anomalies while others show more than a bit in the
background. The English Stereo Soundtrack is clear and free of any video noise
or interference. English Captions and Closed Captions for the hearing impaired
and Spanish Language Subtitles are encoded onto the DVD as options. A (1.85:1)
trailer for “Alien Tracker” and a (1.33:1) trailer for “The Dead Zone: The
TV Series” wraps up the extra features on this DVD. The interactive menus are
easy to navigate.
“Alien
Tracker” is available on DVD-Video now from Lions Gate Home Entertainment.
