February 24, 2006 - Here is a DVD review of Image Entertainment's "Young Mr. Lincoln: Special Edition Double-Disc Set: The Criterion Collection #320."
February 22, 2006 - Here are UMD for PSP reviews of Anchor Bay Entertainment's "Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes" and "Near Dark." As the days draw nearer for the debut of both high definition DVD formats, I find myself confounded at times at the assumptions I read online from various websites. If you look at the news everyday online I think it is safe to say that on one day it sounds like Blue-ray Disc is going to kick HD-DVD's ass and on another day you will read the opposite. Now I was not at CES this year and I cannot yet give an eye witness assessment of either the hardware or software until I get them myself. About the only thing I can say again and again is that as far as I am concerned no one will truly know anything until both formats are available at retailer stores. Everything you read anywhere for the most part is speculation and that goes for my website too. I can see strategic advantages for both Sony and Toshiba and I can see the possibility how both could ultimately fail too. Obviously ithe first generation HD-DVD players released by Toshiba without the latest AACS and whatnot may make the Blue-ray Disc players look better because Sony does not have the same release date to debut the hardware and software while Toshiba is committed to a time table and I don't blame them. Yet when the Blue-ray Disc players do come to market they are going to start at about $1000 dollars. Now despite my limited income, I have been preparing for the HD launch and will review both formats, but I don't recall the first generation DVD players costing anywhere near a grand and I purchased my first player a few weeks before the software was even released. Many first generation players in 1997 would end up suffering from the need for a firmware upgrade too so if anything that is a given, but the upgrade for both formats might be a lot easier now with internet downloads than it was nine years ago. A firmware upgrade for Sony's PlayStation Portable that added new features and abilities was included on the UMD game "Infected" for the PSP. The same could hold true for both systems as firmware and software undoubtedly becomes more sophisticated.
An example of how things seem to change depending on the point of view is this article published in "MacWorldCo.UK" regarding Toshiba's AACS issues and here is an article from CNET News.com regarding the possibility of a delay by one whole year for Sony's PlayStation 3. Supposedly this was the deal breaker that made supporters of Blue-Ray disc think that Sony had an ace in the hole. Read both of these articles and please visit the HD-DVD.ORG published by DVD Town because they seem to be giving the fairest coverage on both formats online and it is from this website where I got the above mentioned links. I do everything here myself by choice so you get one person's point of view here, but one person who is not all that different from the readers and consumers and one person who has gotten recognition for his work that rivals larger websites with staffs of writers and more resources. I personally think the majority of websites are different enough from each other that collectively we serve the readers best through direct and indirect collaboration. This is not a competition. I just want my colleagues to online to truly remain open minded and not publish statements that put a negative spin on something most people have not yet had a chance to see for themselves. They may be right and I might be wrong or I might be right and they may be wrong or we all could be both right and wrong. The bottom line readers is see for yourself and make your own best informed choice. We will all still be here offering our opinions, but you ultimately have the power to decide what you want. Use that freedom wisely. Thank you.
February 21, 2006 - Here are UMD for PSP reviews of Warner Home Video's "Constantine", "The Matrix", and "Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines."
February 20, 2006 - Here are UMD for PSP reviews of Warner Home Video's "The Dukes Of Hazzard" and "Enter The Dragon." Amazon.com has added a Blue-ray Disc section in addition to the HD-DVD section that has also been recently updated. You can click here to view the Blue-ray Disc section or here for the updated HD-DVD section. Toshiba is beginning a tour to demonstrate the HD-DVD players at select retailers with TV spots to follow as the hopefully sooner rather than later launch date for both formats draws near.
February 17, 2006 - Here is a DVD review of Freestyle Home Entertainment's "Eavesdropper." You know all of this filibustering going on with Sony regarding AACS is really pissing me off. While no one wants a format war, it seems like everyone is behaving worse than the Democrats and the Republicans in a Presidential Election Year. If Sony is confident about Blue-ray Disc then it should not worry if Toshiba's HD-DVD format gets to market first. What they should do is price players at well below $1000 dollars since even those likely to try out these formats first have to live on a fixed budget in some form too. All of this holdup will only make consumers less likely to place their trust in a high definition optical disc format since many are quite happy with standard definition DVD as is. Personally I also find certain publications blatantly disregarding the HD-DVD format by dragging their heels on supposedly impartial interviews and information related to HD-DVD as well as Blue-ray Disc to be upsetting and short sighted. No one knows for sure what will happen and I for one feel that all of this nonsense and delay will only hurt the manufacturers in the long run. If there's going to be a format war then as they say in the UFC "Lets get it on!"
Februay 15, 2006 - Here is a DVD review of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's "Zathura: Special Edition" and a TV review for the February, 24, 2006 episode of the SCI FI Channel Original Series "Battlestar Galactica" entitled "Downloaded." In addition, below I have press release information on Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's "Ice Age: Super Cool Edition" and Anchor Bay Entertainment's "Free Enterprise: The Five-Year Mission Extended Edition DVD."

Leguizamo); a moody woolly mammoth named Manny (voiced by Ray Romano); a
devilish saber-toothed tiger named Diego (Denis Leary); and an acorn-crazy
saber-toothed squirrel known as Scrat. This

HOSTEL
ON DVD AND FOR PSP APRIL 18
EVERYONE’S LIFE HAS A PRICE IN THE

“The Hostel DVD gave me another creative canvas to go further into the dark
universe we created,” said Roth. “I want fans to be able to enjoy it,
but more than that, I want aspiring filmmakers from around the world to learn
from my experiences. Hopefully fans will watch it until they puke, which
to me is like a standing ovation.”
Hostel is inspired by shocking stories of the dark side of human nature
unearthed by director Eli Roth, and tells the story of two American college
thrill-seekers (Jay Hernandez, Friday Night Lights, Ladder 49, and Derek
Richardson, Dumb and Dumberer) who find themselves victims of a
murder-for-profit business while backpacking in Eastern Europe. Lured to a
hostel in an out-of-the-way Slovakian town boasting a bevy of beauties, the two
quickly pair off with exotic locals Natalya and Svetlana. After awakening
from a hedonistic night of sin, they find themselves plunged into an
unimaginable hell, trapped in a torturous netherworld as wide and deep as the
darkest, sickest recess of human nature itself.
