Here
is New World Pictures sci-fi flick that could have been called “Little Alien
On The Prairie.” In 1897 in the sleep little Texas town of Aurora, an alien
spaceship lands with a little visitor making contact with the various folks of
the town and changing their lives forever. The alien is played by Mickey Hays, a
young boy who had a rare genetic disease called Progeria that accelerates the
aging process up to seven times the normal rate.
The
effect of watching this boy interact with the other cast members could be
somewhat disturbing if only for the fact that it seems somewhat exploitive, but
maybe I’m wrong. I can’t judge for certain. The film gets a lot of mileage
out of western character actor Jack Elam and even features Spanky McFarland.
Presented
in a (1.85:1) anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio, “The Aurora Encounter”
looks pretty good considering the low budget and age. The two-channel English
Monaural Soundtrack is a bit low and almost muffled sounding at times. There are
no extra features included at all. The menus are standard interactive still
frames that are easy to navigate. “The Aurora Encounter” is available on DVD
now from Anchor Bay Entertainment.
