With
the summer release of “Bad Boys II” right around the corner, Columbia
TriStar Home Entertainment is going to release “Bad Boys” to DVD as a part
of the “Superbit” collection. Martin Lawrence and Will Smith were both
recognizable from television and smaller budgeted films, but “Bad Boys” was
their first action film and it was a huge enough success to establish both men
as movie stars. With Lawrence playing the henpecked family man and Smith a
lady’s man, our Miami Detectives team up to find stolen drug evidence with a
72-hour deadline.
Complicating
things is the murder witness, who has their identities mixed up. Say what you
want about Michael Bay and his brand of action picture, but as far as I’m
concerned he makes great looking action pictures with a glossy eye developed
from his commercial background.
So
it is no surprise that “Bad Boys” makes an excellent candidate for the
“Superbit” series of films on DVD from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment
with a great looking anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) aspect ratio presentation
and an excellent English DTS Digital 5.1 Theatrical Surround Sound and a Dolby
Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtrack included as well. The picture and sound benefit
from the double the rate picture and sound mastering that makes “Bad Boys:
Superbit” a great demo DVD for action film fans. Optional English Captions and
Closed Captions and French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, and Thai
Language Subtitles are encoded onto the DVD as options too.
A
standard “Superbit” release, the DVD has no extra features, but delivers
where it counts the most and that is with an excellent picture quality and
soundtrack. “Bad Boys: Superbit” will debut on DVD-Video on Tuesday, May 13,
2003 from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.
