To paraphrase a Fox Network advertisement for “The Simpsons” annual “Tree House Of Terror,” which starts every new season of the hit animated sitcom just after Halloween, “Star Wars Doesn’t End Until The Simpsons Say So!” So just in time for the upcoming theatrical premiere of “Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith” is “The Simpsons: Bart Wars,” which aside from one episode and the menu and cover art has little to actually do with Star Wars. However one does get some very funny episodes that include “Mayored To The Mob,” which features the voice of Mark Hamill as himself singing the hilarious tune “Luke be a Jedi tonight.” The sequence inside the sci-fi convention makes buying the DVD worth it alone with Cylon centurions beating up C3PO as well as the appearances of Dr. Smith and the Robot from “Lost In Space” among other memorable sci-fi characters. While the prospect of losing a family pet tugs at my heart strings as I am sure it would anyone who loves their dogs and or cats, the scene where the veterinarian tries to resuscitate a hamster just cracks me up every time in the episode “Dog Of Death.”

Each episode runs between 22 or 23 minutes each and can be viewed either individually or via a “Play All” feature. Extra value materials include opening animatics from “Mayored To The Mob” (7:45) as well as a multi-angled picture-in-picture look at the “Mayored To The Mob” episode that allows viewers to switch between storyboards, animatics, and the completed episode while watching it. The interactive menus are standard still frames with humorous “Star Wars” themed images featuring the characters. All four episodes included on this DVD are presented in their original broadcast (1.33:1) full frame aspect ratio along with a clear English Dolby Surround Soundtrack as well as French and Spanish Language Dolby Surround Soundtracks and English Captions and Closed Captions for the hearing impaired as well as Spanish Language Subtitles encoded onto the dual layered DVD as options.

“The Simpsons: Bart Wars” will debut on DVD-Video at retailers on and offline in our galaxy on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
