Christopher Nolan’s cinematic take on the Batman myth presents a far more realistic and actually darker vision than any of the Tim Burtan Batman movies despite not being particularly stylized like Burtan’s Batman and Batman Returns were. Inspired by the graphic novels, Nolan directs Christian Bale as a far more interesting and engaging Bruce Wayne than previously seen on the big screen. Batman Begins never allows the villains to overtake the hero’s mystique and in so doing is one of the better superhero genesis story feature films to have been produced. The recently released sequel The Dark Knight carries the action forward to even greater heights, but you really can’t appreciate that film in quite the same way without seeing the first one now that it is available on Blu-ray Disc with a terrific VC-1 encoded widescreen 1080p high definition (2.4:1) aspect ratio presentation which is coupled by an engaging English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround Soundtrack. English, French (Dubbed In Quebec), Spanish, and Portuguese Language Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtracks and English Subtitles for the Deaf And Hearing Impaired and French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese Language Subtitles are encoded onto the Blu-ray Disc as options too. Outside the picture-in-picture video comments and behind-the-scenes video footage that was included on the HD DVD version, the Blu-ray Disc itself has only one exclusive feature, the first six minutes from the IMAX version prologue of The Dark Knight, which fits the 16 by 9 screen beautifully and the rest of the features have been carried over from the DVD set and they include the Tankman Begins spoof, Batman – The Journey Begins, Shaping Mind And Body, Gotham City Rises, Cape And Cowl, Batman – The Tumbler, Path To Discovery, Saving Gotham City, Genesis of the Bat, Reflections On Writing Batman Begins, Digital Batman, Batman Begins Stunts, Confidential Files, stills gallery, and a theatrical trailer. The picture-in-picture feature will only work on Blu-ray Disc players with BonusView capability or the Sony PlayStation 3 with the latest firmware upgrade.

The
interactivity is equal to the HD DVD version in every respect except for no zoom
feature present. Housed within the larger box that includes the Blu-ray Disc
within the Elite Blue BD case are the exclusive limited edition materials
collectors and fans may want that include a Movie Money coupon to see The
Dark Knight in theaters - $7.50 Value, a 32-page booklet featuring script
pages, storyboards and film stills from The Dark Knight prologue, a
16-page DC comic book adaptation of The Dark Knight prologue, Batman
Begins Lenticular Art, which can be seen on the box cover and five
collectible postcards. The Batman
Begins Limited Edition Giftset
is available on Blu-ray Disc at the time of this writing at retailers on and
offline courtesy of Warner Home Video.
