The
Broken Lizard Comedy Troup made their feature film debut with the Sundance Film
Festival favorite “Super Troopers.” Somewhere in Vermont, a group of state
troopers competes against local law enforcement while engaging in various pranks
on each other and the hapless civilian drivers they pull over. “Super
Troopers” succeeds in some departments and fails in others. If you rent or buy
this DVD expecting “Police Academy” I think you will be disappointed, but if
you look at this film as something akin to The Kids In The Hall comic feature
“Brain Candy” combined with a touch of sophomoric humor like the National
Lampoon films you will find a lot to like with some true laugh out loud moments
and pure inspired insanity.
Twentieth
Century Fox Home Entertainment’s DVD edition features a very good anamorphic
widescreen (1.85:1) aspect ratio coupled with a full and well rounded English
Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtrack coupled with a French Language Dolby
Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtrack and Spanish Language Dolby Surround Soundtrack
and English Captions and Closed Captions for the hearing impaired and Spanish
Language Subtitles encoded on to the dual layered DVD as options. There are two
feature length audio commentary tracks featuring members of Broken Lizard and an
optional Director’s Commentary on some rough color and black and white mixed
extended scenes and even an alternate ending.
Two
short behind-the-scenes featurettes are included along with the theatrical
trailer and a 30 second DVD trailer for “Kung Pow: Enter The Fist.”
“Broken Lizard’s Super Troopers” will debut on DVD-Video on Tuesday,
August 6, 2002 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
