Chow-Yun-Fat
is a mysterious monk who has protected a sacred scroll that yields unlimited
power to the one who posses it. Upon finding the one who he thinks is destined
to take on the responsibility, (Seann William Scott), a street punk with a lot
to learn, they both become targets of forces that would use the scroll for dark
purposes.
Mixing
Eastern philosophy with a comic book sensibility and lots of special effects,
“Bulletproof Monk” is a fun film based on the comic book series by Flypaper
Press. The Special Edition DVD from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Home Entertainment
presents “Bulletproof Monk” in a fine and richly detailed as well as
colorfully vibrant anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1) aspect ratio along with a very
well rounded and discrete English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtrack as well
as French and Spanish Language Dolby Surround Soundtracks and English Captions
and Closed Captions for the hearing impaired and French, Spanish, Mandarin, and
Cantonese Language Subtitles as options. There are also two-feature length audio
commentaries included with one featuring Director Paul Hunter and Producers
Charles Roven and Douglas Segal and another featuring the Writers. Both are
interesting and screen specific.
Extra
features includes “The Tao Of Monk,” a documentary broken into five
featurettes that can be watched individually or as one reel (55:24) that cover
just about everything one might want to know about the film and also included is
an extra short on the comic book that spawned it (6:58) entitled “The Monk
Unrobed.” There are also five letterboxed deleted scenes (11:38) and an
alternate ending (4:52) with optional Editor’s commentary.
The
theatrical trailer (1:46) and a soundtrack spot (: 30), “Bulletproof Monk”
(: 41) and “Great Escape” (: 43) video game trailers and bonus MGM trailers
for the “James Bond: Special Edition DVD Sets” (3:20), “Out Of Time”
(2:11), “Die Another Day: Special Edition” (2:16), “Agent Cody Banks:
Special Edition” (1:15), “Dark Blue: Special Edition” (2:00), and “The
Terminator: Special Edition” (1:04) as well as a “Dead Like Me” TV spot
(1:02) and an “MGM Means Great Movies” promo (1:14) wrap up the extra
features include on this DVD.
“Bulletproof
Monk: Special Edition” is available on DVD-Video now from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
Home Entertainment at retailers on and offline.
