Turner Classic Movies will honor Charlie Chaplin with an 11-film retrospective as well as 36 short films beginning with the premiere of Richard Schickel’s new documentary “Charlie: The Life And Art Of Charles Chaplin.” This documentary chronicles Chaplin’s brilliant career as an actor, director, producer and composer, as well as his controversial and much-publicized private life, his love affairs and four marriages, his paternity suit scandal and persecution by the FBI, culminating in a self imposed exile from the United States.

The documentary features revealing observations, rare footage interwoven with scenes from Chaplin’s greatest films, newly recorded interviews and home movies, “Charlie” truly is one of the most comprehensive documentaries regarding Mr. Chaplin and his “Little Tramp” character I have ever seen. The documentary features 19 newly recorded interview clips featuring Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Lord Richard Attenborough, Milos Forman, Robert Downey Jr., Johnny Depp, Marcel Marceau, Bill Irwin, David Raskin, Norman Lloyd, Claire Bloom, Sydney Chaplin, Geraldine Chaplin, Michael Chapin, Andrew Sarris, David Thomson, Jeanine Bassinger, David Robinson, and Jeffrey Vance.

“Charlie: The Life And Art Of Charles Chaplin” will premiere on Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at 8pm with encores following on Thursday, March 4, 2004, at 12:30am and Thursday, April 1, 2004, at 1:15am only on TCM. For additional information please visit www.turnerclassicmovies.com.
