Just as Fox released a collection containing select episodes
of “The Simpsons Treehouse Of Horror” Fox has also released another
collection of episodes from various seasons under the “Christmas With The
Simpsons” label. The DVD contains the original “Simpsons” Christmas
special, “Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire,” which is also available in
Fox’s “The Simpsons: The Complete First Season On DVD Collector’s
Edition” box set released a few years back. In that episode Homer and family
discover that Christmas is about love and appreciation when Homer comes home
with their dog “Santa’s Little Helper.” The picture quality on this
episode is mediocre especially when compared to the later episodes on this DVD
and contains only an English Stereo Soundtrack while the rest of the episodes
feature clear English, French, and Spanish Language Dolby Surround Soundtracks
as well as English Captions and Closed Captions for the hearing impaired and
Spanish Language Subtitles as options. The picture quality on the other four
episodes included on this DVD is great with a (1.33:1) aspect ratio preserving
the manner in which they were broadcast on television.
Among the other holiday themed episodes include “Grift Of
The Magi,” which features the guest starring voices of Tim Robbins and Gary
Coleman while Richard Gere lends his voice for “She Of Little Faith.” From
Homer’s competition with Barney in the snowplow business, Bart’s accidental
burning of the Christmas gifts, Bart’s Christmas toy creation from hell, and
Lisa’s disillusionment with The First Church Of Springfield and subsequent
dabbling in Buddhism, there are a nice variety of holiday episodes to watch.
Also included is a montage of funny scenes entitled “Mr. Burns’
Finest Moments” (3:21), which oddly is given it’s own separate layer on the
DVD for such short featurette.
With only three complete seasons available on DVD now and the
fifteenth season having just started on Fox, it may be a long while before any
of these episodes become available in season by season sets so fans of “The
Simpsons” may want to get these episodes on DVD to enjoy now.
“Christmas With The Simpsons” is available on DVD-Video
now at retailers on and offline from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
