Harrison Ford, Anne Archer, and James Earl Jones reprise their roles with Phillip Noyce returning as Director and Actors Miguel Sandoval, Donald Moffat, and Willem Dafoe joining for the third film in Paramount’s Jack Ryan feature film franchise, “Clear And Present Danger.” Production began shortly after “Patriot Games” was complete with a more expansive and ambitious story that has Jack Ryan facing corruption related to the war on drugs in South America and on Capital Hill. The next film in the series would not debut in theaters for another eight years, but proved to revitalize the franchise with Ben Affleck taking over the role of Jack Ryan in “The Sum Of All Fears.”

Paramount Home Entertainment is re-releasing “Clear And Present Danger: Special Collector’s Edition” along with “The Hunt For Red October: Special Collector’s Edition,” and “Patriot Games: Special Collector’s Edition” sold separately day and date with “The Jack Ryan Special Edition DVD Collection,” which includes all three along with the already available “The Sum Of All Fears: Special Collector’s Edition” DVD on May 6, 2003. Sporting a great looking anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1) aspect ratio presentation and an excellent English DTS Digital 5.1 Theatrical Surround Soundtrack, “Clear And Present Danger” is the best looking and sounding of the three re-releases on DVD. An English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtrack and a French Language Dolby Stereo Surround Soundtrack accompanied by English Captions and Closed Captions for the hearing impaired and Spanish Language Subtitles encoded for the feature and French Language Subtitles encoded for the bonus documentary are included as options.

The documentary “Behind The Danger” (26:32) features brand new videotaped interview clips between behind-the-scenes production footage with Producer Mace Neufeld, Director Phillip Noyce, and Actors Harrison Ford, Anne Archer, James Earl Jones, Donald Moffat and many others and also features some CGI animatics to completed scene comparisons as well. The theatrical trailer (2:37) is presented in a (1.85:1) aspect ratio with Dolby Pro Logic Surround Sound.

Like the other re-releases, “Clear And Present Danger: Special Collector’s Edition” offers a great transfer and great DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 Soundtrack options, but little extra features beyond that. Look for “Clear And Present Danger: Special Collector’s Edition” when it debuts on DVD-Video on Tuesday, May 6, 2003 from Paramount Home Entertainment.
