Ever
wonder how the “Grand Army Of The Republic” was able to land on Geonosis and
get by the orbiting Trade Federation Battleships? How were they able to surprise
the droid armies of Confederacy Of The Independent Systems and land in the arena
undetected until it was too late? Well
now you can put your forces to the test as the most legendary war of the Star
Wars Galaxy comes to your Nintendo Game Cube courtesy of LucasArts Entertainment
Company and developed by Pandemic Studios.
This
is one great game and very well thought out. Game players pilot a variety of
craft with constant goals in mind across six expansive worlds in the Star Wars
Universe. Through the various campaigns one has access to weapons supply, radar,
squad command, targeting, and damage indicators as you go to war with a variety
of craft that include speeder bikes, fighter tanks, two legged and six legged
assault walkers, mobile assault cannons, gunships, and even the Maru, a Wookie
beast of burden. A number of
familiar characters from the film like Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace
Windu, and Count Dooku make their appearance in this game along with expanded
universe characters like fallen Jedi turned Sith Ulric Qel-Droma in cryptic
form. Some new mercenaries, smugglers, and heroes also make their appearance in
the game.
A
nice touch is the viewing mode, which tailors the game for you viewing screen.
So if you have a 4 by 3 or 16 by 9 television, the game screen can be
reconfigured to accommodate your preferred viewing mode. This gives the game
play a more cinematic quality. The game can accommodate up to four players
simultaneously in one of four modes that include a duel where players fight
against each other with the victory going to the one with the most kills. A
slightly different take on this is control zone that gives a more arena like
contest. Conquest mode enables two teams of two players each to assume the roles
of The Galactic Republic and The Confederacy Of Independent Systems, and Jedi
Academy where one plays the game with characters rather than machines.
Speech,
volume, and sound effects courtesy of Ben Burtt are all completely within the
control of the user and options can easily be reset and tested. First and third
person view game play options are also made available to the player. The game
comes with easy to follow documentation within the keep case to get players
started.
“Star
Wars: The Clone Wars” is available now from LucasArts Entertainment Company
for the Nintendo Game Cube and can be purchased at retailers on and offline as
well as directly from www.lucasarts.com.
