A
group of sociopath bank robbers hijack a plane bound for Acapulco, but the plane
crashes in a swamp and the survivors become prey to a giant crocodile. Simple,
straight, and to the point “Crocodile 2: Death Swamp” is a action packed
B-movie that never pretends to be anything more than what it is. However in
doing so it delivers a thrilling popcorn DVD rental release with plenty of over
the top violence, TV quality CGI, which means that you can tell the Croc is
fake, but you still won’t care, and a complete disregard for continuity, like
one character’s hand gets cut open with some glass, but in the rest of the
film the hand wound is nowhere to be seen!
The
continuity error does not bother as much as the fact that two of the most
villainous guys in the film die in such a way that we don’t get to enjoy the
crocodile making them suffer and tearing them limb from limb, which I think
viewers would enjoy seeing after watching so many innocent characters die bloody
agonizing deaths in the maw of a crocodile.
The
anamorphic (1.85:1) aspect ratio presentation is uneven with some visible
compression grain in the corners of some scenes, but the English Dolby Digital
5.1 Surround Soundtrack is very aggressive and serves the film well, since the
sound effects add at least half of the thrills in the film. English Captions for
the hearing impaired and Spanish Language Subtitles are encoded on to the DVD as
options.
Full-framed
trailers for “Crocodile 2: Death Swamp” as well as the Tobe Hooper original
“Crocodile” and if that was not enough, how about “Octopus 2,” are
included on the DVD as well. The menus are standard interactive still frames
that are easy to navigate.
“Crocodile
2: Death Swamp” is what it is and as long as one keeps it in mind, I think
they will have a good time. Look for it now on DVD-Video now from Lions Gate
Home Entertainment.
