Kiefer
Sutherland is a cop forced to retire after a botched up sting operation and
because he has a bad heart that appears to be growing worse despite anything he
does. His half brother played by Anthony LaPaglia convinces him to invest in a
racehorse and before they know it they are mixed up with lone sharks, a washed
ex-con jockey with a daughter and a gambling problem. Now they’re both up
their necks in debt unless they can figure a way to beat the mob that wants
their horse to lose.
“Dead
Heat” is not much a thriller despite the label on the packaging and feels more
like a light drama. The performances seem pretty flat and overall the movie is
forgettable. Lions Gate Home Entertainment’s presents “Dead Heat” in an
anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) aspect ratio. The picture has some shimmering in
the background and looks pretty soft. The English Dolby Digital 5.1 and Surround
Soundtracks are okay, but nothing outstanding. English Captions and Spanish
Subtitles are encoded on to the DVD and production commentary and a trailer wrap
up the extra features.
“Dead
Heat” will debut on DVD-Video on Tuesday, July 23, 2002 from Lions Gate Home
Entertainment.
