The fearless vampire hunters played by Jason Scott Lee and his young companion played by Jeremy London have tracked Dracula (Rutger Hauer) to his Eastern European stronghold to destroy him once and for all. “Dracula III: Legacy” was actually shot at the same time as “Dracula II: Ascension” as if it were one feature film, but the intention was always to make it a new Dracula Series for Dimension Films as a trilogy as noted by Writer and Director Patrick Lussier, who directed all three films. The film is somewhat disjointed, neither feeling like the completion of a trilogy as the second film set up nor feeling particularly whole. To be blunt, “Dracula III: Legacy” lacks a bit of soul.

Dimension Home Video presents “Dracula III: Legacy” on DVD with a clear anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1) aspect ratio with a full English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtrack and optional English Captions for the hearing impaired as well as French and Spanish Language Subtitles encoded onto the dual layered DVD as options. Writer and Director Patrick Lussier, Producer Joel Soisson, and Special Makeup Designer Gary Tunnicliffe provide a very articulate and enthusiastic feature length audio commentary that is quite detailed and actually more entertaining then parts of the film itself. Among the extra value features is a discussion with Writer and Director Patrick Lussier regarding the mythology of vampires (4:38), and it is fascinating because he goes into great detail about the various cultural stories that exist worldwide regarding these undead creatures. Special Makeup Designer Gary Tunnicliffe also provides several interview clips that can be viewed individually or as one reel (8:05). Sections from all three original screenplay treatments are also available for examination and comparison.

A reel of cast audition tapes (13:31) as well as a letterboxed (2.35:1) deleted scene (2:28) and an alternate ending (1:19), which I actually prefer to the ending that exists on the film is included too along with home video trailers for “Dracula 2000” (1:20) and “Dracula II: Ascension” (1:02). Bonus home video previews that include “Hellraiser: Hellworld” (: 56) and “The Prophecy: Uprising” & “The Prophecy: Forsaken” (1:26) as well as a reel of upcoming and available home video advertisements before the opening menu that include “Sin City”, “Cursed”, and “Hostage” (6:32) wrap up the bonus features included on this DVD.

The main menu features scenes from the film while the subsequent menus are all standard interactive still frames that are easy to navigate. You can complete your twenty-first century Dracula Trilogy with “Dracula III: Legacy,” which can be purchased at retailers on and offline courtesy of Dimension Home Video on Tuesday, July 12, 2005.
