Narrated by the late John Garfield’s daughter, Julie Garfield, and produced and written by veteran documentary filmmakers Joan Kramer and David Heeley, who also directs, “The John Garfield Story” illuminates the actor’s life from his humble theatrical beginnings through his untimely death in 1952 at age 39. Featuring interviews with Danny Glover, Richard Dreyfuss, Hume Cronyn and many more admirers the documentary is a part of 25-film festival of the actor’s features airing Mondays throughout the month of February. I am ashamed to admit that I did not know who Garfield was before watching this documentary, but I was moved by the praise he has received and engrossed in this impressive documentary. Check your local cable or satellite listings for the movies and their airtimes in this film festival celebration.
