GENRE ONLINE.NET
Sixth Anniversary Report
You know as we get older we often look upon each year that passes either with contempt because it was a terrible year or we simply resent growing older or both. Then there are times when we look back at the year with happiness and hope that the next year will be even better than the last. Sometimes regardless of whether or not we’ve had a good year, bad year, or somewhere in between we are just quite thankful to still be here and sometimes we simply don’t care one way or the other. If we can have mixed attitudes over the course of our very own lives then can you imagine how we react year-to-year regarding the very things we invest our lives in?
So keeping this in mind you might be thinking, “What’s your point?” and I’ll tell you what my point is. Everything is relative and I’d be a liar if I were to deny there were times when single handedly being the Writer, Reviewer, Editor, and Webmaster of GENRE ONLINE.NET was not stressful, but it’s been well worth it. The site has grown with more readers than ever before and garnered the support and notice of industry professionals who recognize if nothing else that GENRE ONLINE.NET is truly a Resource for Home Video Entertainment & More! I have put a lot into the site and the site has given me a lot in return. So much is happening in the world of media these days that I think we really are heading toward a crossroads that will determine the direction of how consumers will be entertained for decades to come. DVD and now UMD are just the beginning. The merging of how we are entertained portably and at home is truly evolving to the point where one day there will be a theater of the world where every person can have the opportunity to attend the opening night of a sold out Broadway show and have the same amount of excitement as the people sitting in the front row. The difference between being there in the flesh and being there remotely will be truly so relative that the play, the musical, the concert, or the movie premiere may sell out virtually before the actual tickets to be there to attend the event even begin to sell.
Yet I have no doubt that analogue or real life entertainment and enjoying the simple things in life will not change. Movies did not end the theater experience, home video has not ended going to the cinema nor has cable television ended the viability of terrestrial broadcast television and with all of these options, we still find time to read books and websites too. If anything the growth of media has given us more options and opportunities and will continue to do so. The only thing that is certain is as long as it can enhance our lives or should I say we allow new and expanding media formats to do so, we can all say with some degree that while no one can predict the future, we are living in extraordinary times.
So with approximately 2,286 media reviews and counting as of October 29, 2005, I hope to continue to be here with you all through GENRE ONLINE.NET and beyond for as long as I want, as long as I can, and beyond. Thank you all.
Yours truly,
