Inspired by true events, “Ladies Night” follows two insurance investigators (Colin Ferguson & Claudette Mink) as they probe a case involving money embezzled by a trusted female employee only to discover the trail leads to a series of missing women that all had access to large sums of money and are all presumed missing or dead. When the body of the embezzler is discovered, their case turns into a search for a father and son team of serial killers.

The father is played with great charm and foreboding presence by Paul Michael Glaser. As Art Kirkland, Glaser is charming and considering his age, he looks like he’s in pretty good shape too. While Glaser seems personable enough, it is his body language that delivers the sense of malevolence in his performance. He is a big guy and when his character commits an act of murder, he does it with cold efficiency as if it were just a matter of fact for him. Glaser truly anchors the film very well as the heavy.

The film itself has an undercurrent of darkness despite the frequent sunny settings. This helps to give this latest USA True Crime Original Movie” a shadowy subtext where within all of the characters there seems to be a hidden agenda or there is the way things appear to work and the way things really are behind the scenes that adds much to the film’s dramatic contrasts. Overall, an above average crime drama, “Ladies Night” will premiere on Saturday, February 19, 2005 from 9pm to 11pm (ET/PT) only on USA Network.
