Here
is a film lineup that I have never seen together before: Peter Sellers, Ringo
Star, John Cleese, Raquel Welch, Christopher Lee, Richard Attenborough, and
Roman Polanski as well as Paul McCartney’s hit song “Come and Get It” as
the film’s highlighting signature opener. Peter Sellers is the wealthiest man
in the world and Ringo Starr is a young street orphan her adapts as his heir on
a whim. Together they set forth on a series of madcap escapades, discovering the
way money can buy anything and anyone their hearts desired.
Weird
comedy is worth a look for those with a taste for the offbeat and downright odd.
A title from the Republic Pictures catalogue, “The Magic Christian” makes
its debut on DVD-Video for the first time from Artisan Home Entertainment. The
image is presented with a (1.33:1) full screen aspect ratio. The color image has
a few scratches, but the transfer itself has solid colors and nice detail. The
sound is a little muffled at times. English Closed Captions for the hearing
impaired are encoded on to the disc as an option. There are no extra value
features and the menus are standard interactive still frames that are easy to
navigate.
“The
Magic Christian” will debut from Artisan Home Entertainment along with a
selection of other first-time DVD debuts from Republic Pictures on Tuesday,
January 21, 2003 for the suggested retail price of $14.98.
