As
depressing as the story is, John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice And Men” is a book
with a symmetry and ring of truth that still resonates in the twenty-first
century and Actor, Producer, and Director Gary Sinise captured it beautifully on
screen. Now MGM has re-released “Of Mice And Men” as a “Special Edition”
DVD release with a beautiful anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) aspect ratio
presentation that benefits from beautiful Earth colors and rich detail along
with a nice English Dolby Surround Soundtrack. A French Language Dolby Surround
Soundtrack and English Captions and Closed Captions and French and Spanish
Language Subtitles are encoded onto the dual layered side of this DVD-14 as
options. Gary Sinise gives a moving commentary that shows not only a low-key
passion for the work, but also a sense of deeper understanding and perspective
when it comes not only his film, but also toward his career. Mr. Sinise also
provides an optional commentary for a number of extra feature that include 11
deleted scenes that can be viewed one at a time or as one reel, make-up and
screen tests with select cast members that include John Malkovich and Sherilyn
Fenn and he also participates on an informative conversation with Screenwriter
Horton Foote.
A
behind-the-scenes featurette coupled with the theatrical trailer and some MGM
DVD recommendations wrap up the extra features on this DVD. If you are a fan of
this film, this DVD with the compelling extra features is well worth the
investment and or upgrade. “Of Mice And Men: Special Edition” is available
