The amazing Tony Shalhoub returns as his signature TV detective character in the hit USA Network original TV series “Monk” in seven new episodes from the show’s second season that include “Mr. Monk & The Paperboy” on Friday, January 16, 2004, at 10pm (ET/PT) and John Turturro will guest star as Monk’s agoraphobic brother the week after in “Mr. Monk & The Three Pies” on Friday, January 23, 2004, at 10pm.  In “Mr. Monk & The Paperboy” our neurotic obsessive compulsive detective uses pages of the newspaper to unlock the mystery behind the murder of his paperboy while Monk gets a “life or death” phone call from his brother (Turturro) in a humorous guest starring role and returns to the home where he grew up and where his brother hasn’t stepped out of in nearly 32 years. Turturro and Shalhoub work great off of each other. They even look at though they really could be related

At times I think “Monk” is given one too many idiosyncrasies to seem believable and then he seems to be able to overcome certain obstacles a little to easily for anyone with any form of neurosis to do, but the important theme of the show is how a person can overcome their personal demons and succeed on a daily business in even the most unlikely of circumstances. Overall both episodes are entertaining and “Monk” fans should be pleased so tune in.
