Three
and a half years have past since Danny Ocean and team stole 160 million from
Vegas big shot Tony Benedict, but someone has violated the code of honor among
thieves and ratted the location of every team member to Benedict who gives them
all two weeks to repay their debt plus an incredible amount of interest or
they’re history. Unable to pull a heist big enough to cover their obligations
in the states, Ocean’s Twelve goes to Europe in an attempt to pull of a series
of heists that will put them in the clear. Their troubles however are not the
clock ticking on Mr. Benedict’s wall, but the agent out to arrest them
(Catherine-Zeta Jones), who is also romantically involved with one of the
members (Brad Pitt) and then there is the mysterious master thief out to prove
to Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and the world that he is the best ever.
“Ocean’s
Twelve” serves up a lot of anticipatory excitement, but ultimately falls flat
half way through in part because while the entire cast is present for this
sequel, half seem to be involved in little more than an extended cameo and the
others just seem to be sleepwalking through the film. Perhaps something a little
more straight forward would have made it a more interesting film because quite
honestly I wanted to see Ocean’s Twelve beat Benedict again, but instead all
we get is a lot of half-baked crime caper action and a lukewarm story that is
just not quite as fun as the original. The film also features cameos by Robby
Coltrane, Eddie Izzard, Jared Harris, Bruce Willis and Albert Finney, who is
uncredited in the film.
The
quality of the anamorphic widescreen transfer, which presents “Ocean’s
Twelve” in a (2.35:1) aspect ratio that preserves the manner in which the film
was exhibited theatrically is superb and the English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
Soundtrack is quite lively. A French Language (Dubbed In Quebec) Dolby Digital
5.1 Surround Soundtrack and an English Dolby Surround Soundtrack are also
encoded as options along with English Closed Captions for the hearing impaired
and English, French, and Spanish Language Subtitles encoded onto the dual
layered DVD too. The theatrical trailer (2:16) and bonus previews for “The
Aviator” (: 32), “The Phantom Of The Opera” (2:07), and “Million Dollar
Baby” (: 32) precede the opening animated main menu screen. The subsequent
menus are standard interactive still frames that are easy to navigate.

Twelve: Widescreen Edition” is available on DVD-Video now courtesy of Warner
