Silver and Leonardo DiCaprio served as Producers for this thriller under the
Dark Castle label, which has produced a number of horror and thriller pictures
for Warner Brothers that have included the popular remakes of William Castle’s
Thirteen Ghosts and House On Haunted Hill. The premise can be
summed simply by stating following a tragic loss, grieving parents, (Vera
Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard) adopt a little girl, (Isabelle Fuhrman), who is not
what she seems. Not by a long shot. This is a cheap thrill chiller with a twist
and is not nor was it ever intended to be the next Psycho or The Omen.
Please note this is not a supernatural horror story, but an improbable
one, but for a fright night rental, Orphan is okay so long as you take it
on face value and not invest too much thought into any of the contrivances and
banal dialogue in the film.
Presented
in a 16 by 9 (1.85:1) aspect ratio with 10880p/24fps resolution, this is a
detailed VC-1 encoded transfer that captures the film’s muted textures quite
nicely. A well-mixed English Dolby Surround 5.1 Soundtrack is encoded onto the
dual layered Blu-ray Disc along with English,
French (Dubbed In Quebec), and Spanish Language Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
Soundtracks and English Subtitles For The Deaf and Hearing Impaired and French
and Spanish Language Subtitle options.
A
15-minute featurette chronicling the history creepy kids in cinema in a general
sense is included and there are some additional scenes that include an alternate
ending (4:00). The disc is BD Live enabled for online bonus features for those
with BD capable players and there is a bonus disc containing a digital copy that
can be transferred to Windows based and Apple Macintosh based mobile media
devices.
