Robert
Mitchum plays a jaded Civil War hero pursued into the frontier wilderness by
inner demons of his childhood and real killers in the present. Marrying his
stepsister, who seeks to avenge the death of her brother at Mitchum’s gun,
both encounter a mysterious stranger out to settle an old score with startling
revelations. “Pursued” has been restored with funding by acclaimed Filmmaker
Martin Scorsese by the UCLA archives. The results are a good (1.33:1) black and
white aspect ratio with nice grayscale detail and a restored English Monaural
Soundtrack. There is some grain here and there, but the film still looks okay.
English Closed Captions for the hearing impaired are encoded on to the DVD as an
option.
This
movie-only release from Artisan Home Entertainment from the Republic Pictures
catalogue carries a suggested retail price of only $14.98 and it is the first
time the film has been made available on DVD. The menus are standard interactive
still frames that are easy to navigate.
“Pursued”
will debut on DVD-Video from Artisan Home Entertainment on Tuesday, January 21,
2003.
