After the success of “The Curse Of Frankenstein,” Hammer Films immediately filmed a sequel entitled “The Revenge Of Frankenstein” with Peter Cushing reprising his role as Baron Victor Frankenstein. Rescued from the guillotine by his devoted assistant (Oscar Quitak), the Baron relocates to Carlsbruck where he becomes a celebrated society physician. However he continues his gruesome experiments by transferring his assistant’s brain into a normal human body.

With screenplay by Jimmy Sangster, who would go onto to direct future Hammer films, the series made Peter Cushing an international star. Look for Actor and Genre Film Veteran Lionel Jeffries in a humorous character appearance in the film’s opening act. Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment presents “The Revenge Of Frankenstein” with an anamorphic widescreen (1.66:1) transfer made from a new high definition transfer. There are a few nicks and some light grain that subdue the picture quality a bit, but overall fans of the Hammer Horror Classics that have been surfacing on DVD from various studios and independent distributors should be pleased to add this film to their DVD collections. In fact Warner Home Video will be releasing “The Curse Of Frankenstein” in October so as an added incentive for fans, they should know that they can get this first sequel from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment in just a few weeks.

A clear English Monaural Soundtrack is included along with English Captions and Closed Captions for the hearing impaired encoded on to the DVD as well as French and Japanese Language Subtitles as options. A short black and white photo gallery as well as trailers for “The Revenge Of Frankenstein,” “The Bride,” and “Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers” are included as extra features. The menus are standard interactive still frames that are easy to navigate.

“The Revenge Of Frankenstein” will debut on DVD-Video on Tuesday, August 13, 2002 from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.
