SCI FI Fridays have been outstanding all around for all three of the SCI FI Channel’s original signature adventure/drama programs. “Stargate: SG-1” has gotten much more interesting with the new threat from the Ori as well as the intrigue of now free Jaffa nation. Ben Browder has injected life into the show though his range as an actor still seems to be limited to variations of his Crichton character from the previous hit SCI FI series he appeared in “Farscape.” His former “Farscape” costar Claudia Black reprises her as Vala in “Crusade,” which covers through flashbacks what has happened to her character since she was lost in the Ori galaxy. In addition she has a little surprise for the SG-1 group that no one can explain though Teal’c’s reference to “Star Wars” is humorous. The events recounted in “Crusade” directly have an impact on the second season finale episode “Camelot,” which has the team scrambling on various side missions in an attempt to sidetrack the Ori invasion. The closing scenes of this episode had me hooked to see how things will play out when “Stargate: SG-1” returns for its tenth season this summer. The allegory whether it is intentional or not regarding what is essentially a battle of ideologies, one being based on a religion while the other being based more on science feels quite contemporary in America circa 2006.

Claudia Black will join the regular cast for the record-setting tenth original season, which is currently in production in Vancouver. “Stargate” as a franchise has filled in the void more than ever left by “Star Trek” and the crossover potential for both “SG-1” and “Atlantis” is so great that I sincerely hope they won’t wrap up the loose ends quickly or neatly when both shows return because the possibilities for exciting adventures on both series are simply staggering. “Stargate: SG-1: Crusade” will premiere on Friday, March 3, 2006, at 8pm (ET/PT) and “Stargate: SG-1: Camelot” will premiere the following week on Friday, March 10, 2006, at 8pm (ET/PT) only on SCI FI. Don’t miss it!
