Just as Fox had
released some holiday themed compilation discs containing select episodes of
“The Simpsons” last year, so will Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment
will release another batch of hilarious episodes with “The Simpsons Gone
Wild” on DVD. Four episodes from various seasons of the series are included on
this disc and they include “Homer’s Night Out” (23:05), an early episode
where Bart’s picture of Homer dancing with an exotic performer at a bachelor
party gets him in big trouble with Marge. “Sunday, Cruddy, Sunday” (22:48)
has Homer and Bart leading a gang of Springfielders to the Super Bowl unaware
their tickets are fake. “The Mansion Family” (22:33) has Homer and the
family caring the Mr. Burns estate while he is at the Mayo Clinic. “Homer The
Moe” (22:33) has Homer opening up a bar in his garage after Moe turns his
saloon into an upscale nightclub.
With the exception
of “Homer’s Night Out” all of the episodes look quite sharp and free of
any video defects and all are also presented in their original broadcast
(1.33:1) aspect ratio with a choice of digital quality English, French, or
Spanish Language Dolby Surround Sound. English Captions and Closed Captions for
the hearing impaired and Spanish Language Subtitles are encoded onto the dual
layered disc as options too. French Language Subtitles are provided only for
“Homer The Moe” and there are some limited French Language captioning for
the other episodes when an English Language sign appears on screen though the
dialogue is not subtitled in French for those other three episodes.
A montage of bits
featuring “Krusty The Clown” (2:26) is also included. The menus are standard
interactive still frame images from the “Homer’s Night Out” episode and
all are easy to navigate. The episodes can be viewed individually or as one reel
too. Since the season-by-season box sets of “The Simpsons” tend to get
released about once a year, this is a great way to see some of the more recent
episodes on disc that may not be available for some time otherwise. “The
Simpsons Gone Wild” will debut on DVD-Video at retailers on and offline on
Tuesday, September 14, 2004 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
