Smallville: The Complete Sixth Season On DVD Box Set presents all 22 episodes of the popular TV series in a matted widescreen (1.78:1) aspect ratio enhanced for 16 by 9 televisions with a full English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Soundtrack and English Subtitles for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired and French and Spanish Language Subtitles encoded on all six discs for all 22 episodes as options. The Sixth Season has also been released on HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc for high definition optical disc consumers. A full review of the high definition set is forthcoming, hence this QuickView of the standard definition DVD set. As expected from Warner Home Video, the picture and sound quality for this TV on DVD set release are industry standard, which means they look and sound pretty darn good and if you have a good standard definition DVD player that upconverts DVDs to virtual high definition resolutions, they should look even better.
Extended cuts of 12 episodes are presented among the 22 episodes within the set, which chronicles the rift between Clark Kent (Tom Welling) and Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) as both young men choose their opposing destinies. Aaron Ashmore joins the cast, as Jimmy Olsaen while Justin Hartley appears as Green Arrow. We also get to see future Justice League members Cyborg, Aquaman, Green Arrow, and Impulse participating together in adventures as much of the re-interpreted Superman mythology comes to life to include more Phantom Zone escapees and the Martian Manhunter. There are many surprises, plenty of drama and adventure and a few cameos too.
Extra value features spread out across the six discs include featurettes about the development of the Green Arrow character through the years, computer animated shorts, a look at the show’s fans, a look at the making of The Oliver Queen Chronicles and more. A must for any fan of the show, Smallville: The Complete Sixth Season On DVD Box Set is available now at retailers on and offline courtesy of Warner Home Video.
