“Son
Of Godzilla” is an entertaining entry in the series, which introduces “Manilla,”
Godzilla’s son, who is hatched after radioactive fallout from a failed weather
controlling experiment turns ordinary praying mantises into giant killing
machines. Hearing his son’s cries for help once his egg is forcefully hatched
opened, Godzilla rushes to his defense. In addition to the above mentioned
monsters, a giant spider creature known as “Kumonga” also appears in this
adventure, which features lots of monster fighting action and a bit of humor
involving how Godzilla trains his son to emit radioactive fire against his
enemies. There’s even a poignant quality to the film’s final closing scenes,
which sets up what will eventually become known as “Monster Island” in the
Godzilla features that followed.
Like
the presentation of “Godzilla Vs. The Sea
Monster,” “Son Of Godzilla”
has probably never looked better on domestic American home video with a sharp
and colorful anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1) aspect ratio presentation coupled
with a clear Japanese Two-Channel Monaural Soundtrack as well as an English
Language Dubbed Two-Channel Monaural Soundtrack and English Language Subtitles
encoded onto the disc as options.
