The
complete second season of “South Park” is now available on DVD courtesy of
Comedy Central and Warner Home Video. In this season the show had found a
mainstream audience and some controversy in part because of the nature of the
series and how the guest stars who all wanted to contribute to “South Park”
were cast, if they accepted the role, once Parker and Stone told them what their
role would be. During the second season viewers got to find out the identity of
Cartman’s father, learned about Conjoined Twin Myslexia and saw a prehistoric
man get thawed out.
Presented
in their original (1.33:1) television broadcast aspect ratio, I found the
picture quality to be disappointing. In fact I think season one looked better
than season two on DVD. There is this video noise throughout the episodes that
is very distracting. All 18 season two episodes are presented with a clear
English Stereo Soundtrack and feature English Captions and Closed Captions for
the hearing impaired as well as French and Spanish Language Subtitles as
options.
The
extra value material is very light with the animated Chef (voiced by Isaac
Hayes) “Chocolate Salty Balls” music video (4:04) and the 1999 documentary
“Goin’ Down To South Park” (50:33), which is actually quite entertaining
while giving viewers a look at how the series is produced behind-the-scenes
without taking itself too seriously. A TV spot for “The Daily Show With Jon
Stewart” (: 48) is also included. The menus are standard interactive still
fames that are easy to navigate.
“South
Park: The Complete Second Season On DVD Box Set” is available now at retailers
on and offline from Comedy Central and Warner Home Video.
