A
popular sitcom in the 1990s, “Spin City” starred Michael J. Fox as the
Deputy Mayor of New York City whose job is to keep the Mayor looking good
despite some mishaps the Mayor gets himself into and his offbeat support staff.
The series featured Barry Bostwick as the Mayor and included various supporting
actors that included Richard Kind and Alan Ruck. Eventually Heather Locklear
joined the cast and the series metropolitan setting attracted numerous guest
stars as noted above.
After
four years Michael J. Fox left the series after going public with his battle
against Parkinson's Disease. It is sad that a likeable entertainer like Fox was
struck with this affliction, but his status as a television star helped to bring
more attention to the disease. These 22 episodes contained on both volumes all
feature filmed clips with Fox explaining what he liked about the particular
episodes and it is bittersweet since it is quite apparent that the man is
literally battling to keep his composure and have his body language seem as
natural as possible. I wish I had something more substantial to say, but it is
hard to articulate emotions sometimes even as a reviewer.
All
22 episodes are presented in their original (1.33:1) broadcast aspect ratio and
they look great. No defects in picture quality whatsoever. A clear English
Stereo Soundtrack is encoded onto all four discs along with optional English
Captions and Closed Captions for the hearing impaired. Episodes can be viewed
individually or as one reel on each disc and the second DVD in Volume Two
features a reel of Parkinson's Disease public service announcements (1:24) with
select cast members and Mr. Fox too. The
menus are standard interactive still frames that are easy to navigate.
“Spin City: Michael J. Fox – His All Time Favorites: Volumes One & Two” are available at retailers on and offline sold separately from DreamWorks Home Entertainment.
