The great Robert Picardo returns as the International Oversight Committee rep Richard Woosley and the new leader of the Stargate Atlantis expedition in an episode littered with genre TV stars that Stargate: Atlantis is starting to become “Geek Soup” and I mean that in the most loving way since contrary to popular belief, Nerds rule and it takes a geek to know one. However it really is amazing how many genre TV alumni are a part of the recurring Atlantis character roster with Jewel Staite (Firefly), Mitch Pileggi (The X-Files), Connor Trinneer (Star Trek: Enterprise) Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager) and Stargate: Atlantis alumni Paul McGillion as well as Stargate: SG-1 stars Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks appearing as special guest stars this season too.

The season premiere packs in a lot
of action and gets much accomplished in 44 minutes without commercial
interruptions that I think it is actually one of the better season premieres for
the series and overall a nice way to set the tone for what is to come. I’ll be
very interested to see how Picardo’s character changes and enhances the
dynamic of the series, which will hit its benchmark 100th episode
this season too. I still remember screening and reviewing the series premiere
like it was yesterday. Amazing how time just seems to pass by so fast as you get
older, right? Stargate: Atlantis - “Search And Rescue” will premiere
on Friday, July 11, 2008, at 10pm (ET/PT) only on SCI FI.
