Artisan
and Hallmark Home Entertainment present a new adaptation of “The Swiss Family
Robinson” on to DVD just days after the premiere of the television miniseries.
Compiled as one three-hour film, “Stranded,” tells the tale of a family who
opts to accompany their matriarch, the Pastor Swiss to his exile in Tasmania.
The charges are due to religious persecution out of fear and paranoia during the
Napoleonic Era. A raging storm shipwrecks the family on a deserted South Seas
island where they endeavor to build an ideal existence over the course of
several years. Meanwhile, their youngest son, who was separated from the rest of
the family during the storm, falls in with pirates who eventually come the
island seeking sanctuary and wealth while eluding the British Fleet. Their
presence leads to confrontation that will change the family forever.
Artisan
Home Entertainment presents “Stranded” with a somewhat uneven, but still
good (1.77:1) anamorphic widescreen presentation with a full and clear English
Stereo Soundtrack and English Closed Captions. The menus are standard
interactive still frames that are easy to navigate. The miniseries is quite
realistic without becoming too gloomy. It is a tad slow at times, but the pay
off makes viewing “Stranded” on DVD well worth it. “Stranded” is
available on DVD-Video now from Artisan Home Entertainment.
