Turner Classic Movies has invited six celebrated fashion designers to discuss how classic films influenced and inspired their careers and their designs on “Style In Motion” airing every Monday night in October. Each designer hosts an evening of four films that they have enjoyed repeatedly over the years and discuss various details including fashion, direction, production design and the political and sociological impact on culture.

The festival kicks off with Kate and Andy Spade discussing “Bonnie And Clyde” (1967) at 8pm followed by “The Swimmer” at 10pm, “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner (1967) at 12am and “To Kill A Mockingbird” (1962) at 2am. Then on October 13, 2003 Isaac Mizrahi hosts his selection of films beginning with “The Women” (1938) at 8pm and followed by “Darling” (1965) at 10:15pm, “Roberta” (1935) at 12:30am and “Blow-Up” (1966) at 2:30am. October 20, 2003 features Mark Badgley and James Mischka hosting “High Society” (1956), “Funny Girl” (1968), “The VIPs” (1963) and “Dinner At Eight” (1933).

The festival concludes on October 27, 2003 with “The Thomas Crown Affair” (1968) and followed by “Pillow Talk” (1959), “Pocketful Of Miracles” (1961) and Butterfield 8 (1960).

Having viewed the intros for these films, I can say that some of comments are actually quite academic, but ultimately the films speak more for themselves than the speakers and the comments really will only be as interesting as one cares about what brand is on the back of their garment they are wearing while watching the films. “Style In Motion” airs every Monday beginning at 8pm (ET) in October only on Turner Classic Movies. Please check your local cable and satellite listings for channel and for possible changes in airtime.
