The
producer and cinematographer of this flick graduated where I went to college and
I am so proud! Sarcasm aside, it is not easy to get a film made and back in the
late 1980s and early 1990s before digital video had been perfected it was
extremely expensive. So I can’t knock anyone who succeeds in getting several
films made aside from just one and while I’m not crazy about it, there is a
market for these films out there otherwise Elite Entertainment, one of the
pioneers in taking genre films and presenting them in the same kind of quality
that one might expect from a Criterion Collection title going back to the days
of laserdisc, would not be distributing it now on DVD.
A
botched abortion where the fetus is literally flushed down the toilet leads to
an angry and murderous mutant offspring out for blood on the streets of
Brooklyn. That is about as far as I’m going to get into the story. If you want
to learn more, watch the film. I think for the first time ever, “The
Suckling” is being made available on DVD-Video in North America and is
presented in an anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) aspect ratio with an English
Stereo Soundtrack. The source materials appear to have become a bit weathered
hence the film looks washed out at times. The soundtrack is clear though and
free of any background crackling or hissing. The theatrical trailer (1:48) is
included too. The menus are standard interactive still frames that are easy to
navigate.
“The
Suckling” will debut on DVD-Video at retailers on and offline courtesy of
Elite Entertainment on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 and one can preorder the DVD now by
visiting www.elitedisc.com too.
