Now this is more like it! A Hammer “Dracula” flick with an R rating for all the things that made a Hammer horror picture fun to watch. There’s Christopher Lee as “Dracula,” a few well-endowed women to ogle, and some dark humor to boot. “Taste The Blood Of Dracula” begins right where “Dracula Has Risen From The Grave” left off with a witness to Dracula’s demise selling his remains to a Satanist, played with just enough fanaticism so as to enjoy his short appearance by Ralph Bates, and three old “gentlemen” who take up the offer to participate in a dark ritual without realizing the cost. When the three men cower and murder Dracula’s disciple and flee the site, Dracula rises and avenges himself by ruining the lives of the three men who left his dark servant for dead.
The picture quality on this Warner Home Video DVD release is best of the three new Hammer films that debuted in time for the theatrical release of Universal and Stephen Sommer’s film “Van Helsing.” There is also no real need to see the previous entry in the series since the film goes off in it’s own direction quickly. A clear and somewhat fuller English Monaural Soundtrack is provided along with optional English Captions and Closed Captions for the hearing impaired and French and Spanish Language Subtitles. The theatrical trailer (2:24) is also included. The menus are standard interactive still frames that are easy to navigate.
“Taste The Blood Of Dracula” is available on DVD-Video now individually or as a part of a six-disc horror collectors set at retailers on and offline from Warner Home Video.
