Artisan
Home Entertainment has just released a bunch of budget priced DVD titles from
the Kushner Locke Company. Among these releases is a series I don’t recall
seeing or even hearing about before receiving these two DVD volumes for review.
My guess is that “Tropical Heat” was probably some syndicated TV series
combining elements of the pulp private eye genre with lots of beautiful woman
running round in bikinis. The series follows ex-DEA agent Nick Slaughter (Rob
Stewart) on the beautiful atoll of Key Mariah where he investigates murders,
drug running, and various other adventures while getting involved with steamy
women on the beach.
The
show is pretty cheesy with wooden acting, humorless gags, and stupid dialogue.
Artisan Home Entertainment is releasing two volumes of “Tropical Heat” sold
separately for the low suggested retail price of $14.98 each. Both discs contain
two episodes in their (1.33:1) broadcast aspect ratio with a nice English Dolby
Pro Logic Surround Soundtrack and optional English Closed Captions for the
hearing impaired.
The
image quality is bit soft with noticeable compression anomalies and a bit of
what appears to be color bleeding. The menus are standard interactive still
frames that are easy to navigate. Not my kind of show, but if you remember and
liked this TV series “Tropical Heat” Volumes 1 and 2 containing the first
four episodes collectively is now available on DVD-Video sold separately from
Artisan Home Entertainment.
