Combining elements of The
Hardy Boys and Johnny Quest with some mild adult humor, “The
Venture Bros” is an engaging comedic romp on the wild side with two as nerdy
as can be paternal twin brothers who along with their hapless genius scientist
dad and a big muscle bound brute of a bodyguard go on funny adventures through
space, the Bermuda Triangle, the bottom of the sea, and Mexico… The villains
tend to steal the show away from the heroes with such characters as the Monarch,
The Phantom Limb, Baron Underbheit, and the Orange County Liberation Front.
Episodes open with a letterboxed teaser that gives the 30-minute animated comedy
adventure series a slight theatrical feel before the shows open up in the
traditional (1.33:1) broadcast aspect ratio.
There is some very mild adult
humor here and there, but overall it is the twisted look at 1960s adventure
cartoons that makes “Venture Bros” entertaining to watch.
